I started working with Erin after a disappointing finish at the Canadian Trail Running Championships. I had always been really good at putting in the physical training, but lacked training in the mental side of the sport. Sometimes I would get lucky and be "ON" that day, but had no consistent way of reproducing these results.
I had tried sports psychology in university a few times and didn't find it helpful. I decided to give it another try and am so glad I did. Erin took the time to learn what worked and didn't work for me. Together, we developed key mental resets and decided what things were best to focus on.
It wasn't enough to know what not to do — I needed to know where to put my focus instead. Erin was skilled at zoning in on what works well for me while emphasizing that the goal is not perfection, but rather developing the tools needed to succeed.
In less than a year, I was able to turn around my disappointing 19th place at the Canadian Trail champs into a 9th place the following year. Even more important than placing was the return of my confidence and joy in the sport. She helped me work through my fear of failure, instead focusing on curiosity of what I could do on the day I was given.
I would 10/10 recommend Erin to any athlete that is struggling to reach their peak performance and losing their joy in the process of chasing your best.
